I have extensive experience and training in procedures that are “wide- awake” under local anesthesia alone. Many of these were done in a hospital in the past, but now we have transitioned to doing this in the office! That means:
- No special testing (labs, EKG, stress test, etc.)
- No fasting (so the patient is able to eat throughout the day)
- No changing or navigating through a hospital
- No need for a drive. Most patients can drive to and from the clinic.
- No anesthesiologist or IV in the arm.
- Much cheaper for the patient
- An easier and efficient experience.
Conditions treated are extensive, and I am constantly trying to get and more done under local anesthesia. Patients who have it done truly love it. Here are some conditions that I treat in this manner:
- Tendinitis (Trigger finger, wrist tendinitis, etc.)
- Mass/ Ganglion excision
- Percutaneous Dupuytren’s release and collagenase injections
- Tendon repair
- Tendon transfers
- Many finger fractures
- Hardware/ pin removal
- Finger contracture release
- Joint manipulation
- Foreign body removal
- Carpal tunnel release
- Hand infections
- Skin graft/ local flaps
- Finger amputation
